Lift chairs

Lift chairs are powered reclining chairs designed to assist individuals who have difficulty sitting down or standing up from a seated position.

These chairs use an electric lifting mechanism to gradually raise and tilt the seat forward, helping users transition into a standing position with less physical effort.

Lift chairs are commonly used by older adults and individuals experiencing muscle weakness, joint stiffness, or reduced mobility. They provide additional comfort and support during everyday activities such as resting, reading, and watching television.

Two-position, three-position, infinite-position and heavy-duty lift chairs with close-up views.

Finding comfortable seating

  • Seat dimensions

Seat height, width and depth influence how well a chair supports the body.

  • Support and controls

Compare the backrest, armrests and controls, and try the sitting and standing movements when possible.

  • An individual assessment

An occupational therapist can assess additional positioning needs and whether a lift chair is suitable for your abilities and routine.

Making room for the chair

  • Space for movement

Reclining and rising mechanisms need clearance around the chair, with the amount of space depending on the model.

  • Power and backup features

Check the current product dimensions, power requirements and available backup features with the supplier.

  • Comfortable control access

Make sure you can reach and operate the controls comfortably before selecting a chair.
