Philanthropy projects
Transforming lives in Puerto Plata.
Community Outreach Advocates spearheaded the Clean Water Initiative in the Puerto Plata region of the Dominican Republic. The project addressed limited access to clean water with practical, community-led solutions designed to last.

How the work took shape
Building a foundation for change.

- 01
Needs assessment
We began with on-the-ground surveys, working alongside local leaders and health workers to identify the communities most affected by water contamination. Water-quality testing found bacteria and pollutants in rivers and wells, with rural communities facing frequent waterborne illness.
- 02
Partnerships and planning
We partnered with local organizations, including Agua Limpia Dominicana, and secured support from international donors. Together, we brought the expertise and resources needed to build sustainable water infrastructure.
- 03
Infrastructure development
- Filtration systemsGravity-fed filtration units were installed in schools, health clinics, and public spaces, removing 99.9% of bacteria to provide safe drinking water.
- Well drillingThree deep wells with solar-powered pumps were drilled in communities without reliable groundwater sources.
- Rainwater harvestingRainwater collection systems were built in remote areas, creating an alternative clean-water source during the rainy season.
- 04
Community education
Our team held workshops on water sanitation, system maintenance, and the long-term health benefits of clean water. Local leaders were trained to operate and maintain the systems, helping the work remain sustainable.
Community impact
Clean water creates lasting change.

Community-led sustainability
Trained community members now manage and maintain the systems, supporting long-term success and local independence.
Environmental benefits
Reduced reliance on bottled water and improved conservation practices are helping protect the local ecosystem.
Voices from the community
The difference, in their words.
Before the new well, we had to walk miles to collect water, and it was never safe to drink. Now, we have clean water right in our village. My children are healthier, and I have time to focus on my small business.
The filtration system in our school has been a blessing. The children are happier, healthier, and more energetic. We are so grateful to Community Outreach Advocates.
